Prof. Kyriacos Kyriacou

Kyriacos Kyriacou studied Biochemistry at the University of London and continued his studies at King's College London where in 1981 he obtained the title of PhD in Biochemistry / Histopathology. In 1982 he was elected Lecturer in Biochemistry at the Medical School of King's College Hospital. From 1991-2019 he was employed as a Senior Scientist at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) where he had founded and directed the Department of Electron Microscopy / Molecular Pathology. In addition, in collaboration with the Histology Department of the General Hospital of Nicosia, he founded the Department of Immunohistology, which serves thousands of Cypriots in the diagnosis and treatment of serious diseases, such as cancer. In 2012 he was elected Professor and in 2014 he was elected Dean of the Cyprus School of Molecular Medicine, a position he held until 2021. Since 2022 he has been working as a Visiting Professor at Frederick University. Dr. Kyriacou has 12 chapters in books and 147 publications in peer-review scientific journals, H index 44, with active participation in international scientific societies and conferences. His research focuses on the genetics and epidemiology of cancer and so far the research funding exceeds €8,000,000. He has supervised the dissertation of 7 PhDs, and 20 Master's students.

O Κυριάκος Κυριάκου σπούδασε Βιοχημεία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Λονδίνου και συνέχισε τις σπουδές στο King’s College του Λονδίνου όπου το 1981 απέκτησε τον τίτλο του PhD στη Βιοχημεία/Κυτταροβιολογία. Το 1982 εκλέγει Λέκτορας στη Βιοχημεία στην Ιατρική Σχολή του King’s College Hospital. Από το1991-2019 εργοδοτείτο ως Ανώτερος Επιστήμονας στο Ινστιτούτο Νευρολογίας και Γενετικής Κύπρου (ΙΝΓΚ) όπου είχε ιδρύσει και διεύθυνε το τμήμα Ηλεκτρονικού Μικροσκοπίου/ Μοριακής Παθολογίας.. Επίσης σε συνεργασία με το Ιστολογικό τμήμα του ΓΝΛ, ίδρυσε το τμήμα Ανοσο-ιστολογίας το οποίο εξυπηρετεί, χιλιάδες Κύπριους, σε θέματα διάγνωσης και θεραπείας, σοβαρών ασθενειών, όπως τον καρκίνο. Το 2012 εκλέγει καθηγητής και το 2014 εκλέγει Κοσμήτορας της Σχολής Μοριακής Ιατρικής Κύπρου, θέση που κατέχει μέχρι το 2021. Από το 2022 εργάζεται ως Επισκέπτης Καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick. Ο Δρ Κυριάκου έχει πλούσιο συγγραφικό έργο με 147 δημοσιεύσεις, H index 44, σε έγκριτα επιστημονικά περιοδικά και ενεργή συμμετοχή σε διεθνή επιστημονικές εταιρείες και συνέδρια. Οι έρευνες του επικεντρώνονται στη γενετική και την επιδημιολογία του καρκίνου και μέχρι τώρα οι ερευνητικές επιχορηγήσεις που έχει επιτύχει ξεπερνούν τα €8,000,000. Έχει επιβλέψει την διατριβή 7 διδακτορικών, και 20 Μάστερ φοιτητών.
