Dr. Angelos Menelaou

Short CV

Angelos Menelaou is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce at Frederick University. He holds a Diploma in Business Administration, a BSc in Accounting from York College, City University of New York, an MSc in Transportation Management, specialising in transport economics, from SUNY Maritime College, and a Doctorate from Middlesex University, focusing on information technology and workflow processes in ship management. He led the establishment of the first accredited undergraduate maritime programme in Cyprus in 1999, contributing significantly to the development of maritime higher education in the country. With nearly 30 years of academic and professional experience, he has held senior managerial positions in finance, human resources and project management. He currently serves as Group Business Controller at Marlow Navigation, an international ship and crew management company. He has led and coordinated several European-funded research projects in close collaboration with governmental authorities, port organisations, academic institutions and the maritime industry. His work focuses on maritime management, sustainable port development, decarbonisation and marine environmental governance, with particular emphasis on translating research into practical solutions, supporting public policy and strengthening cooperation between academia, government and industry. He also serves as Scientific Coordinator of the Coastal and Sea thematic area for Limassol Municipality under the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, and as consultant to the Shipping Deputy Ministry of Cyprus on marine pollution prevention and environmental monitoring. Dr Menelaou is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Energy Sector Management. He has also organised major international maritime conferences and participates actively in European research and professional networks.

Ο Δρ Άγγελος Μενελάου είναι Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής και Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Ναυτιλίας και Εμπορίου του Πανεπιστημίου Frederick. Είναι κάτοχος Διπλώματος στη Διοίκηση Επιχειρήσεων, Πτυχίου Λογιστικής από το York College του City University of New York, Μεταπτυχιακού Διπλώματος στη Διοίκηση Μεταφορών, με εξειδίκευση στην Οικονομική των Μεταφορών, από το SUNY Maritime College και Διδακτορικού Τίτλου από το Middlesex University, με αντικείμενο την αξιοποίηση της πληροφορικής και τη βελτίωση των επιχειρησιακών διαδικασιών στη διαχείριση πλοίων. Πρωτοστάτησε στην ίδρυση του πρώτου αναγνωρισμένου πανεπιστημιακού προπτυχιακού προγράμματος Ναυτιλιακών Σπουδών στην Κύπρο το 1999, συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στην ανάπτυξη της ναυτιλιακής τριτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης. Διαθέτει σχεδόν 30 χρόνια ακαδημαϊκής και επαγγελματικής εμπειρίας, έχοντας αναλάβει ανώτερες διοικητικές θέσεις στους τομείς της χρηματοοικονομικής διοίκησης, της διαχείρισης ανθρώπινου δυναμικού και της διοίκησης έργων. Παράλληλα, κατέχει τη θέση του Group Business Controller στη Marlow Navigation, διεθνή εταιρεία διαχείρισης πλοίων και πληρωμάτων. Έχει ηγηθεί και συντονίσει ευρωπαϊκά χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά έργα, σε στενή συνεργασία με κυβερνητικές αρχές, λιμενικούς οργανισμούς, ακαδημαϊκά ιδρύματα και τη ναυτιλιακή βιομηχανία. Το έργο του επικεντρώνεται στη ναυτιλιακή διοίκηση, τη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη λιμένων, την απανθρακοποίηση και την περιβαλλοντική διακυβέρνηση των θαλάσσιων και παράκτιων περιοχών, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στην πρακτική αξιοποίηση της έρευνας, την υποστήριξη της δημόσιας πολιτικής και την ενίσχυση της συνεργασίας μεταξύ πανεπιστημίων, κρατικών αρχών και βιομηχανίας. Είναι επίσης Επιστημονικός Συντονιστής της θεματικής ενότητας «Ακτές και Θάλασσα» του Δήμου Λεμεσού, στο πλαίσιο της Ευρωπαϊκής Αποστολής για Κλιματικά Ουδέτερες και Έξυπνες Πόλεις, και Επιστημονικός Σύμβουλος του Υφυπουργείου Ναυτιλίας της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας σε θέματα πρόληψης της θαλάσσιας ρύπανσης και περιβαλλοντικής παρακολούθησης. Είναι Fellow του Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers και μέλος της Συντακτικής Επιτροπής του επιστημονικού περιοδικού International Journal of Energy Sector Management. Έχει επίσης διοργανώσει σημαντικά διεθνή ναυτιλιακά συνέδρια και συμμετέχει ενεργά σε ευρωπαϊκά ερευνητικά και επαγγελματικά δίκτυα.
